Sewing for Myself: Boatneck Top

Tangible Pursuits: Sewing for Myself: Boatneck Top

I have been doing some more sewing for myself, lately.  I love the zip up hoody I made last month, but I needed some shirts too. I bought some stretch ITY jersey knit fabric (apparently no longer available) from Fabric.com.  The fabric is very smooth and silky, with a good amount of stretch.  I love the turquoise in it and the fact that it would go well with navy or black.

For the pattern I used the Shoreline Boatneck pattern from Melly Sews that had been available for free in size small last year.  Since I am more of a medium, I widened the sides a bit  - but not that much because her shirt was designed to be made in woven as well as stretch fabrics and my fabric had plenty of stretch.  I also straightened out the bottom and added a band, because I love a banded bottom!  It is also a lot easier than hemming.

Later this week I will share another top I made for myself recently, and coming soon, a free tutorial for Easter, so stay tuned!

  1. I wish there was more of this fabric, I love it! I have that pattern saved but haven't sewn it yet. I will probably band it as well, hemming is my least favorite thing ever.
