Review of Peek-a-Boo Pattern Shop's Updated Footed PJ's Pattern

(Disclosure: I am a Peek-a-Boo pattern shop affiliate, so if you click on my links and buy something I will get a small commission.)

I made a pair of Footed PJs from Peek-a-Boo Pattern shop a couple months ago and wasn't very happy with the fit on my big kid.  I had made the size 8 because he is right at the end of the height range for the size 7 and so I had expected them to be a little big, but they were waaaay long in the legs and also waaay wide in the torso (but the sleeves were just right).  Recently, however, Amy updated the pattern and she also hosted a sew-along last week on her blog, so I decided to give the new version a try and I am happy to report that the fit is much improved!

The legs are now just about perfect, with a little growing room.  Amy also added instructions for adding elastic to the back of the ankle which will help keep the feet in place.  And, as you can see, the overall width of the neck, torso and legs is much better.  Amy has also added instructions for using a shorter zipper on big kid sizes, which will be helpful since 30"+ zippers can be hard to find and are sometimes really expensive.  (I bought a dozen on Etsy for about a dollar each, but if you buy them at a store they are going to be a lot more).

The instructions for the pattern are detailed and clear - something that is never a problem for Amy's patterns - and the pajamas come together really quickly. The only change I made in the pattern was to shorten the width of the cuffs and neck ribbing. The pattern assumes you are using something not especially stretchy for the neck and cuffs, like fleece, but I was using ribbing, so I shortened the width to about 2/3 to 3/4 of the width Amy gives in her pattern.

The fleece I used I got from the $1/yard barrel at the fabric store close to my work, but if you used a fleece with a cute pattern these could be great PJs for Christmas.  If you bought the pattern before, the update is free - if you didn't receive it automatically by email you can just email your receipt to "peekaboopatternshop(at)gmail(dot)com" and she will send it to you.
