Skinny Jeans for my skinny kid

In case you haven't heard, the week before last was Kids Clothes Week.  The idea is to sew for one hour a day during the week, with the result being that you probably finish a project or two and your kids have some homemade clothes.  A lot of people obviously put more than an hour a day into sewing during kids clothing week, and many hours before the week prepping for the sewing by printing out patterns and cutting fabric before the week even begins.  I did not do that this year.  Finding even an hour a day to sew is challenging for me and I was sick the first two days of kids clothes week this year, so I didn't sew at all on those days, but I did manage to complete one project during the week - a pair of skinny jeans for my big kid.  I was participating in the Skinny Jeans Sew Along at Naptime Crafters using the Skinny Jeans pattern (affiliate link) from Peek-A-Boo Pattern shop.

I got the stretch denim from Fabric.com and bought some grey topstitching thread there as well.  The topstitching thread is much thicker than regular thread and really gives the jeans a professional look.  All that topstitching does make the pants take longer, though, especially with having to switch back and forth between regular and topstitching thread.  Unfortunately, I only bought a 33 yard spool of the topstitching thread and I ran out before I finished, so I was only able to do one line of topstitching on the leg seams and no topstitching on the waistband.  I think they still came out great, though.

Because my big kid is pretty skinny and tall I made them the width of the size six and the length of the size eight, although, as you can see, I ended up with extra length.  I also needed to tighten up the adjustable waist quite a bit for him, even though I had made them extra skinny for him.

The next Kids Clothes Week will be in the spring and I plan to participate more fully then.  Although I sew clothes for my kids most weeks, there seems to be something special about being a part of an event like kids clothes week that I definitely want to get it on!
